Chapter One Excerpt:

His headache began again with a dull ache in the back of his head. He walked to the kitchen, opened a cabinet door and grabbed a bottle of aspirin. Swallowing two pills, Barry Ryan leaned against the counter and gazed across his loft. The wood floors were covered with tarps, and chips of stone surrounded a car sized sculpture of a pyramid. The piece was a commission for an insurance conglomerate and almost completed after two years of work. He walked around the sculpture and into a service elevator, then rotated a brass handle and the lift shuddered to life.

He descended into a warehouse filled with massive stones and slabs of marble. Unfinished and abandoned works lined one wall, while a dozen cars lined another. He pulled a tarp from a 1967 Corvette Sting Ray convertible and then climbed in and fired up the engine. He drove the car out of the building and turned onto Spring Street, where the sun shined between glittering high-rises. After driving twenty blocks he pulled into a garage and parked, then grabbed his sketchbook from the passenger seat. The streets were quiet as he walked to a café on a corner. His agent, Peter Harper, sat outside in a tailored suit wearing gold rimmed sunglasses.

“Morning, Barry,” Peter said. “How’s the chiseling on the Daecom rock going?”

“Good,” he answered. “Just about finished.”

“Nice. I’ve got three more lined up when you’re ready. Word’s out on your work. All these companies want to enshrine themselves in stone.”

“Need a break for a while, Pete,” Barry answered. “These will have to wait.”

“I’ll hold them off as long as I can, Barry, but these are big time offers. I recommend we jump on them as soon as we can. One bad quarter and these deals are gone,” Peter said.

“I hear you Pete. I’ll keep you posted,” Barry answered.

The two men enjoyed breakfast at the restaurant, built in a former bank building. The original safe stood empty in the back, surrounded by tables of chatty patrons. The trees lining the street were beginning to sprout green leaves and birds were busy gathering materials for their nests.

“So, Pete, how’s Angie?”

“Well,” he hesitated. “Let’s just say now Pattie.”

“I see,” Barry replied. “The revolving door has turned again.”

Barry coughed into his napkin then took a sip of water. He glanced down at the blood splattered linen, then spirited it into his pocket and stood up from the table.

“You okay?” Peter asked.

“I am fine,” he answered. “Something just went down the wrong pipe. I better run. Thanks for breakfast.”

New Release: Death by Living: Life is Meant to Be Spent by N.D. Wilson (W. Publishing Group)

Death by Living: Life is Meant to be Spent

by bestselling author N.D. Wilson

Comparing life to a story is nothing new, but for the first time, today we have the capability of capturing our “story” in 140 characters or a filtered photo and broadcasting it to the world. Bestselling author N.D. Wilson praises today’s virtual story-telling, but adds a word of caution: “We may be in danger of missing our greater stories and their meaning in this rushed, appearances-focused, viral world.”

In his upcoming release Death by Living: Life Is Meant to be Spent, Wilson reminds each of us that to truly live we must recognize that we are dying. Every second we create more of our past—more decisions, more breathing, more love and more loathing.

“Each of us is in the middle of a story. But for some reason, we don’t show the slightest desire to read it, let alone live it with any kind of humble self-awareness,” he says.

Death by Living is a follow-up to Wilson’s critically acclaimed Notes from the Tilt-A-Whirl (June 2009), which will re-release with a new cover at the same time as Death by Living. While Notes from the Tilt-a-Whirl focused on a way of seeing life, Death by Living focuses on a way of living life.

“Doing so requires that we know the chapters that led up to us, it requires that we open our eyes and consciously begin to shape those chapters coming after.”

In his uniquely poetic style, Wilson writes the stories of his grandparents, grapples with the concept of time, and inspires readers.

“Burden your moments with thankfulness,” says Wilson. “Be as empty as you can be when the clock winds down. Spend your life. And if time is a river, may you leave a wake.”

Book Promotion and Author Post: Bridge Over the Atlantic by Lisa J. Hobman

Lisa J. Hobman – Author ~
I moved hundreds of miles from home and wrote a book!

First of all I would like to thank Sapphyria (who has the prettiest name) for having me on her blog. It’s wonderful to get support from such wonderful bloggers and I very much appreciate this opportunity.

The first question people tend to ask me when I say I have written a book is ‘What made you decide to do that?” It’s a reasonably simple story albeit a little lengthy. I will give you the abridged version!

I grew up in Yorkshire, England and lived there for almost forty years of my life. I tried a variety of jobs from singing to working as a Science Learning Mentor. But I’ve always been one to dabble in all things creative from making my own greetings cards to jewelery for gifts and then later hanging signs with phrases. Being creative seems to be something that is ingrained in me and I needed something to get my teeth into.

Scotland has held a special place in the hearts of myself and my wonderful hubby of almost twenty years and we made sure to visit as often as possible to enjoy the breath-taking scenery and wide open spaces. Each time we left it was like leaving home somehow. We talked of moving north of the border permanently but a few years ago we stopped talking and just decided to go for it! It was hard to leave behind friends and family but it felt like the right thing to do.

So now here we settled at home here in Scotland. Being here made me itch to get creative and the story sitting at the back of my mind was begging to be written. After a little encouragement from my husband and best friend I decided to give it a go. At first I stalled. I was filled with self doubt. Me right a book? Ha! This was me. I couldn’t possibly write a book!

After lots of thinking and procrastination I decided I had nothing to lose and got out my laptop. The first line came straight to me and I began typing. A year on and I have one book published, another published at the end of August and one being read through and considered! It’s like something clicked in me and now I can’t stop! It’s been the most amazing year. I was signed to 5 Prince Publishing in Colorado at the end of last year and I have learned so much since then.

Nowadays I write almost full time (in between a little housework of course!) and I’m enjoying every second of my creative journey. They say that everyone has at least one book in them. Are you like me? Have you supressed your creativity? Well if you have all I can say is just go for it! What have you got to lose?

Book Blurb:

Mallory Westerman is a full-figured, successful, young business woman living in Yorkshire, England. Though very career minded, she is extremely self-conscious about her ample curves and so her love life tends to pay the price. Concentrating solely on her business, she has almost given up on finding someone to love. That is until she literally trips into the arms of a stranger who becomes her Knight in shining armour.

The immediate sexual and romantic spark that blossoms into love and the events that follow, irrevocably change Mallory’s life-path and self-image forever, but only go to prove that the road to true love is never smooth and that things don’t always turn out how you expect…

Excerpt of Bridge Over the Atlantic:

December 2009

Mallory had lived in Yorkshire all the twenty-eight years of her life. Since dropping out of her PR course at Uni, through sheer laziness, she had endured a run of soulless jobs. Nothing ever really pushed her buttons. That was until an inheritance from her dear Aunt Sylvia had given her the opportunity to do the one thing she truly wanted to do.

Her little gift emporium, Le Petit Cadeau.

It had been the brain child of her Aunt many years before, when Mallory had taken to making her own Christmas gifts one year when, as was the case on more than one dreadful occasion, unemployment occurred on the brink of the festive season.

She had sobbed and sobbed when the solicitor informed her that her Aunt had left her the large sum of money under strict conditions that she was to, ‘get off her backside and do something fulfilling for once!.’ She remembered almost laughing aloud at the point when the solicitor had uttered the quote directly as her Aunt had written it. Even in death, feisty Sylvia knew how to draw a chuckle from her beloved niece.

It was a fairly quiet early December Wednesday in Leeds, well perhaps quiet was not the right way to put it. The city centre was the usual bustling metropolis, but the Victoria Quarter was, ostensibly, being given a somewhat brief reprieve from the usual barrage of festive shoppers. Mallory huffed as she watched a swooning couple canoodling whilst browsing in the window of the lingerie boutique opposite.

“Sod this for a game of soldiers. I think I need a break,” she informed one of the cute, jointed, stiff teddy bears sitting, looking pensive on the shelf next to where she perched. “I reckon there is a tall, caramel macchiato with my name on it somewhere!”

Grabbing her oversized bag she chalked Back in 20 mins on her very own, handmade door sign. Once she had dropped the latch she headed out into the sea of suited business people and Christmas shoppers. She smirked at the vast number of pre-school children who were sporting cheap red Santa hats lovingly procured for them, she guessed, by harassed parents as bribery for good behaviour.

The paved precinct area was buzzing. Mallory loved Leeds City Centre with its designer boutiques and quirky shops. At this time of year, however, there was something transcendent about the atmosphere. Maybe it was the twinkling lights strung from building to building or the way that each and every shop was decked in sparkling silvers and gregarious gold. The myriad Christmas songs, being played in numerous outlets all out of synch with one another, were an assault on the senses. The stalls all laid out, down the centre of the precinct, were vying for the attention of passers-by with their brightly coloured gifts and trinkets. A delicious aroma of roast chestnuts wafted through the chilled air and into Mallory’s nostrils making her tummy grumble.

She rounded the corner heading for her favourite coffee shop when suddenly she involuntarily lurched forward. Her stiletto heel had become lodged in between two paving slabs, sending her and her belongings, hurtling into the arms of a passing stranger.

“Whoaaaa there!” The startled man grabbed for Mallory, in a bid to stop her inevitable collision with the pavement. “We haven’t been formally introduced and yet here you are throwing yourself at me!” He laughed. His accent was noticeably of the North American variety.

Sapphyria's Review can be found HERE.

I was in a strip club trying to help a ghost get laid, which was challenging, but not impossible. It was just extremely taxing on the necromancer extraordinaire (me) who had to channel energy into the ghost to make her corporeal enough to entice one of the stripper boys. Technically what I was doing was illegal, but it was my job to help ghosts settle their affairs so they could move on to eternally ever after, and Julia’s unfinished business was that she’d died a virgin. I’d made it as easy as I could for her by starting at a strip club; if she couldn’t get some here, I wasn’t sure how much lower I could scrape the barrel.

Julia’s prolonged virginity was an enigma to me, even though she told me that she’d been waiting for her soul mate. I just didn’t understand why that meant she couldn’t hit up a bar, get drunk, and have a fun, regret-filled weekend that included the walk of shame. At least she’d have been in better shape once soul mate came around.

“What do you think about him?” I asked, pointing to one of the three oiled up men who were gyrating for the benefit of all the screaming women. He had blond hair and green eyes, and wasn’t overly muscular. Julia looked at him then quickly looked away. I took that as a sign of approval.

“I think this was a bad idea,” she stammered.

“This was a fantastic idea,” I said. “And it will work, don’t worry.”

“No, I mean, I don’t think I can do this. I waited my whole life for my soul mate and now you want me to just—” she stole another quick look at the stripper, “I don’t think I can do this with some random…stripper man. It’s so indecent.”

I rolled my eyes. “Julia, you’re a ghost; you no longer have the option of being discerning. And if you don’t wrap up what’s keeping you around, you run the risk of turning into a monster. Then it’s an even bigger pain in the ass to get rid of you. So let’s call our efforts here at Bump and Moan choice A, and murderous monster choice B. Which choice would you like to make?”

“A,” Julia said, but she didn’t sound happy about it. I smiled, and grabbed a couple drinks off the tray of a passing waitress. I set them down in front of Julia.

“Drink,” I said. “This will help.”

“I’m a ghost,” she said. “I thought I was unable to eat or drink.”

“You can feel the effects of the alcohol since you’ll be working off my energy, so drink up. I’ve pegged you as a light weight so I think two drinks will be enough.”

“But how is this supposed to help?” she asked, frowning.

“Because its job is to help,” I said.

Flash Fiction, Book Spotlight, and Giveaway: Elysian Fields (Sentinels of New Orleans, Book Three) by Suzanne Johnson (Presented by Bewitching Book Tours)

Let's all give a warm welcome to Suzanne Johnson, author of the Sentinels of New Orleans series as we read flash fiction about Swamp People:

Swamp People

Suzanne Johnson

Note: “Swamp People” is an original short-short set in the world of the Sentinels of New Orleans series, featuring wizard DJ Jaco, her partner (and maybe more) shapeshifting enforcer Alex Warin, loup-garou enforcer Jake Warin, the undead 19th-century French pirate Jean Lafitte, Cajun merman Rene Delachaise, and a cast of many—few of them are actually human.

‘“Here’s the deal, just so we’re clear.” I planted my five-four frame in front of weregator chieftain Zeke Marchand, who was built roughly like a giant water oak with leathery skin instead of bark.
Behind me skulked the slimmer, shorter merman Denis Villere. The mer had a Napoleon complex—he was short, arrogant, and mean as a rabid swamp rat. He probably had the same opinion of me, and I didn’t care.
“The Villeres can live in the area east of Bayou Teche,” I said. “The Marchands live west. You know the boundaries.”
To me, the swamps southwest of Baton Rouge formed a maze: every bend in the bayou, every whiff of dark water, every caw of cormorant or clack of pelican added to the confusion. I could get lost out here in a heartbeat. Wizards didn’t come with built-in GPS.
Zeke and Denis ignored me while they sized each other up, probably to decide who’d be able to eat whom the fastest. Both had were-animal strength, but I’d place bets on the gator. One could only stretch the laws of physics so far.
“Good.” I looked from Zeke to Denis, neither of whom had uttered as much as a squawk. “I’ll consider your silence an agreement.”
In my peripheral vision, I saw today’s backup, Alex Warin, slip out of his big SUV and pull the handgun from his shoulder holster. He’d spent the past two hours pretending not to listen while I negotiated the treaty. Not the most glamorous assignment we’d ever had, but sentinels can’t be choosy and the Villere merclan had been a pain in our backsides ever since I, backed by the wizards’ Elders, ordered them out of Plaquemines Parish.
“I ain’t agreed to nothing.” Denis assumed what I called the “merman stance”—hands on hips and legs spread wide, the better to stay upright when standing aboard a storm-tossed ship. Most of the South Louisiana mers and weregators mainstreamed as commercial fishermen. “We ain’t getting’ nothing good out of this deal.”
Boots making only a whisper of sound among the squawks of swamp hens and rustling of reeds, Alex moved behind Denis, not breathe-down-his-neck close but in a position to move fast if the need to shoot something with silver bullets arose. Although if this scene really went to hell, he’d shift into a big golden dog the size of a small pony—at which point I’d have monster dog, monster fish and a monster gator on my hands, because I was the only thing in this little isolated bend of Bayou Teche who couldn’t turn into something bigger and badder than myself.
But I had a vicious staff of elven origin, and I knew how to use it. Well, sort of.
“If you can’t respect our territory, we got problems, shrimp-face.” Zeke took a step toward Denis, hands bunched into fists.
Zeke brushed me aside and went chest-to-nose with the mer.
Holy crap. Couldn’t anything be simple? Using the staff was a last resort, so I pulled a spare distraction charm from my jeans pocket, flipped off the top of the vial, and slung the contents at a nearby cypress knee sticking out of the watery ground. It exploded into an impressive cloud of smoke and flame, but unlike the fire I could shoot with the staff, it wouldn’t really burn anything.
“I-yi-yi.” Zeke stepped back with a sharp intake of breath. Denis’ nose crinkled as if he smelled a bad fish. I threw in some bravado. “Let’s work this out—unless you want another demonstration of what happens when you don’t cooperate.”
While Zeke and Dennis pondered the stump covered in faux-flame, Alex holstered his gun and returned to the truck. He shook his head, dark hair curling over the top of his collar. Glad I amused him.
I poked the elven staff in Zeke’s chest, grinding my teeth to avoid whining from too much movement. Under my red sweater, I had a midriff wrapped so tightly in elastic tape I might as well be mummified, thanks to merman CPR from a recent case.
“Zeke, your family is not to eat any of the Villeres, even if you’re in gator form and Denis flips his wimpy little fin between your jaws.” Which was, frankly, more self-control than I’d be able to exercise. “In exchange, you’re getting twice the territory you previously had.”
His reptilian gaze (literally) slid over me, and he gave a slow blink of gold-flecked green eyes. “No disrespect, Miss Drusilla, but if he flip any damn thing in my jaws, it’s gonna get bit.” His voice somehow managed to both rumble and slither. Not a pleasant combination. “And dere ain’t gonna be no evidence. He just”—Zeke snapped fingers the size of jumbo crab claws—“gonna disappear, him and his whole clan.”
I sighed and turned to Denis. “Well? You know your options.”
The wizards’ Congress of Elders, the ruling body for prete behavior in the modern world, had given Denis a choice after he’d horned in on another mer clan near New Orleans. He could move his whining, self-entitled family here to the western edge of the Atchafalaya Basin, or relocate out of the human world and into the Beyond.
Sort of a prete witness protection program, without the protection. I had no sympathy for him; his nasty little mother had once threatened to boil me for dinner.
“Told you he wouldn’t agree, you stupid wizard. Gators got ’bout as much honor as wizards, which be none.” Denis sidestepped me and lunged for Zeke—never mind the weregator had at least a hundred pounds and more than a foot of height on him. The mer stood five-seven or five-eight of wiry sun-browned muscle—no match for a guy who turned into a twelve-foot, leather-clad eating machine.
I thrust the staff toward Denis, but hesitated before powering it up. I wasn’t sure how to wield this weapon gently—I’d set him on fire or flat-out kill him. With me and this ancient relic the elves called Mahout and I called Charlie, there was no middle ground. I either held two feet of inert polished wood or I wielded the magical equivalent of a firing squad. With real fire.
Finally, ignoring the stabbing pain in my midsection, I raised the staff over my head with both hands and beaned Denis over the head with it. When in doubt, improvise.
“Shit! That the best you got, you stupid little girl?” He grabbed the tip of the staff and yanked, but I wouldn’t let go. With Zeke’s gruff laughter providing a soundtrack, we tugged back and forth, each jerk sending hot pokers of pain through my ribcage. Maybe I would set the jackass on fire.
A loud pop stopped us in mid-tug. Alex sat on the hood of his shiny blue Ford F150, managing to look bored even as he pointed his pistol toward the clear late-autumn sky. The shot echoed through the centuries-old cypress swamp, and in its wake, silence.
Denis let go, robbing me of the chance to give him the beat-down he deserved.
“Let’s start over.” I clutched the staff so tightly red sparks flew out the end, which made both the weres swear and back away. Sweet. “Zeke, you okay with the new agreement?”
“My family’ll keep our part of it,” he rumbled. “Which means right now, he be on my side of da bayou.”
“Yeah, we okay, like you give us a choice. Witch.” With a final evil eye in my direction, Denis turned and stalked to his motorcycle.
“Did you just call me a witch? Seriously?” My dislike of this guy rose higher than the Spanish moss topping the trees. Witches were vastly inferior to wizards.
He cranked, revved, and fishtailed out of the small clearing without a backward glance. That mer gave got some bad fish a whole new meaning.
I took a deep breath and shook off his negative vibes. Despite my morning grounding ritual to avoid absorbing his hostility, I still pulled in some of his emotional energy. Welcome to the world of an empath.
“Thanks, Zeke.” I tucked the staff into its makeshift thigh holster.
“We all good, chere. Got us more huntin’ grounds.” Zeke wrapped huge, leathery fingers around mine in some approximation of a handshake, and slithered off to hunt whatever weregators hunted. I didn’t want to know.

The mer feud has been settled, but life in South Louisiana still has more twists and turns than the muddy Mississippi. New Orleanians are under attack from a copycat killer mimicking the crimes of a 1918 serial murderer known as the Axeman of New Orleans.

Thanks to a tip from the undead pirate Jean Lafitte, DJ Jaco knows the attacks aren't random--an unknown necromancer has resurrected the original Axeman of New Orleans, and his ultimate target is a certain blonde wizard.

Namely, DJ. Fighting off an undead serial killer as troubles pile up around her isn't easy. Jake Warin's loup-garou nature is spiraling downward, enigmatic neighbor Quince Randolph is acting weirder than ever, the Elders are insisting on lessons in elven magic from the world's most annoying wizard, and former partner Alex Warin just turned up on DJ's to-do list. Not to mention big maneuvers are afoot in the halls of preternatural power.

Suddenly, moving to the Beyond as Jean Lafitte's pirate wench? It could be DJ's best option.

Book Description:

Hurricane Katrina is long gone, but the preternatural storm rages on in New Orleans. New species from the Beyond moved into Louisiana after the hurricane destroyed the borders between worlds, and it falls to wizard sentinel Drusilla Jaco and her partner, Alex Warin, to keep the preternaturals peaceful and the humans unaware. But a war is brewing between two clans of Cajun merpeople in Plaquemines Parish, and down in the swamp, DJ learns, there’s more stirring than angry mermen and the threat of a were-gator.

Wizards are dying, and something—or someone—from the Beyond is poisoning the waters of the mighty Mississippi, threatening the humans who live and work along the river. DJ and Alex must figure out what unearthly source is contaminating the water and who—or what—is killing the wizards. Is it a malcontented merman, the naughty nymph, or some other critter altogether? After all, DJ’s undead suitor, the pirate Jean Lafitte, knows his way around a body or two.

It’s anything but smooth sailing on the bayou as the Sentinels of New Orleans series continues.

Book Description:

As the junior wizard sentinel for New Orleans, Drusilla Jaco's job involves a lot more potion-mixing and pixie-retrieval than sniffing out supernatural bad guys like rogue vampires and lethal were-creatures. DJ's boss and mentor, Gerald St. Simon, is the wizard tasked with protecting the city from anyone or anything that might slip over from the preternatural beyond.

Then Hurricane Katrina hammers New Orleans' fragile levees, unleashing more than just dangerous flood waters. While winds howled and Lake Pontchartrain surged, the borders between the modern city and the Otherworld crumbled. Now the undead and the restless are roaming the Big Easy, and a serial killer with ties to voodoo is murdering soldiers sent to help the city recover.

To make it worse, Gerald St. Simon has gone missing, the wizards' Elders have assigned a grenade-toting assassin as DJ's new partner, and undead pirate Jean Lafitte wants to make her walk his plank. The search for Gerry and the killer turns personal when DJ learns the hard way that loyalty requires sacrifice, allies come from the unlikeliest places, and duty mixed with love creates one bitter roux.

On Aug. 28, 2005, Suzanne Johnson loaded two dogs, a cat, a friend, and her mom into a car and fled New Orleans in the hours before Hurricane Katrina made landfall.

Four years later, she began weaving her experiences and love for her city into the Sentinels of New Orleans urban fantasy series, beginning with Royal Street (2012), continuing with River Road (2012), and now with Elysian Fields (August 2013).

She grew up in rural Alabama, halfway between the Bear Bryant Museum and Elvis’ birthplace, and lived in New Orleans for fifteen years—which means she has a highly refined sense of the absurd and an ingrained love of SEC football and fried gator on a stick.

She can be found online at her website or her daily blog, Preternatura. As Susannah Sandlin, she writes the best-selling Penton Vampire Legacy paranormal romance series and the recent standalone, Storm Force.

“Mr. Cross,” I started, leaning into him so that no one else could hear me. “What are you doing here?”

“It’s nice to see you too, Miss Foster.”

“I think we’re passed the formalities now, don’t you?” I asked.

“Daphne, then.” My name played so softly on his lips that I shuddered, and embarrassingly so. He smiled. “Then you must call me Charlie.” He kissed the backs of my hands. “I see I already have a positive effect on you.”

“Don’t read too much into it,” I told him. “It’s just a chill.”

“Or maybe a warm sensation,” he whispered, putting his finger on my face and tracing it down to my lips. I swallowed hard and I know my face was yet again bright red.

I looked over at Janice who was having a pleasant conversation with his brother. Then I looked back at him. “Does your wife know you frequent schools to pick up teachers?” I asked.

“You mean substitute teachers,” he answered. I stuck my tongue out at him. “I like when you do that.”

“Stop it,” I whispered harshly. “Look. I’m sure I’m not the type of woman that you’re used to. Especially since I know first hand that you’re married, and I think I already mentioned that I don’t date married men.”

The waitress showed up with four shots of tequila. I looked at him in amazement. “Really?” I asked.

“Come on, Daphne, let go a little,” Janice added, shining like a brand new diamond.

We downed the shots and Charlie got a little too close. “I find you irresistible, Daphne.” He leaned in so that he was almost whispering in my ear. “I don’t know what it is about you, but I must have you.” He took my hand and brought it to his cheek.

“What is it that you do, Mr. Cross?” I asked.

“I thought we were past formalities.”

“Charlie,” I corrected. “Sorry. What do you do for a living?”

“I’m a businessman,” he answered. “Acquisitions are my specialty.”

“And what exactly do you acquire?” I asked. “And please do not say women.”

“I do not buy and sell women,” he answered, his voice getting suddenly harsh. “But when I see something I want, I go after it until it yields to me.”

I pulled my hand away from his face and looked at him. He was most unsettling. “You think I’m just going to fall right into your arms, don’t you, Charlie.”

“Not into my arms, necessarily,” he answered. “but certainly into my bed.”

Sapphyria's Review:

Shrouded In Illusion is Book 3 in H.D. Thomson's Shrouded series, however, all books are stand alone reads.

Skye Hunter is running from shady characters that want nothing more than to kidnap her son Tyler.  These people will go, and have gone, to any length to do so.  Her running leads her right to Las Vegas and into the casino/hotel that hosts David Bishop - his act involves illusions and he's a widely know illusionist.  What he doesn't know is why this gorgeous woman is going out of her way to locate him.  When she calls him out on his telekinetic abilities, he has no choice but to try and figure her out.

Shrouded in Illusion is a very suspenseful novel.  Not only is Skye running from those who want to take her son away, she has an ex to deal with - one that has some very dark secrets.  This book is full of mystery and intrigue as you try and figure out just what the heck is going on.  David also learns things about his past that he wasn't consciously aware of - his ties to Skye and facility in Boston - he also discovers that his father holds his own secrets.

Skye is an excellent main female lead.  She's strong, feisty, and very protective of her child.  She is written in a way that all really parents should actually be.  Nothing is more important the safety and well-being of her son.  He is most important and she goes to great lengths to protect him.

David is an excellent main male lead.  He's strong and handsome.  He takes in a woman he doesn't know (but yet her name is familiar) and tries to help her figure out what's going on....then again, her whole threat to sabotage his gig at the Pharaoh may have had a hand in it.  What he wasn't figuring on was the relationship that was slow-building.

The entire novel is excellent.  It's well thought out, there is great execution of the plot, the characters are solid, and enjoyable.  Once you begin this book, you'll have a very hard time putting it down.  Shrouded In Illusion has many twists and turns that develop along the way and the ending will have you on the edge of your seat in anticipation.
